HONOR presented the cinematic imaging capabilities of its unique HONOR Robot Phone during the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The showcase took place as part of HONOR’s official strategic imaging partnership within the international promotion program for Chinese-language films.
The HONOR Robot Phone was developed in collaboration with ARRI, a company specializing in cinematic imaging technologies. The device combines an innovative mechanical system with advanced imaging capabilities, aiming to bring more professional filmmaking tools and techniques to mobile devices.
ARRI Cinema Technologies in a Smartphone
The partnership between HONOR and ARRI is based on adapting a range of imaging technologies and professional workflows that ARRI has developed over decades for the smartphone environment. This gives content creators greater flexibility during shooting while preserving extensive room for creative control in post-production.
The HONOR Robot Phone combines ARRI LogC3, which helps retain more detail in bright and dark areas, with ARRI Wide Gamut 3 for a wider color gamut, as well as ARRI Looks, which allows the application of controllable cinematic color styles.
These technologies enable an integrated workflow that begins with capturing scenes on the phone and extends into post-production, bringing some elements of professional cinematic production closer to content creators who rely on mobile devices.
Partnership Opens New Horizons for Mobile Imaging
David Bermbach, Chief Product Officer at ARRI, said the future of imaging is not only about increasing pixel count, but about the degree of control the content creator has.
He added that HONOR combines its expertise in mobile imaging with advanced processing capabilities and robotic technologies, while ARRI offers more than a century of experience in imaging science and professional workflows in cinematic production. He emphasized that both companies share a single goal: expanding the creative possibilities of the tools users carry every day.
ARRI has a legacy spanning more than 100 years in developing filmmaking technologies, from the early days of cinema to modern digital camera systems. It has also received 20 scientific and technical awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in recognition of its technical contributions.
HONOR and ARRI intend to continue developing imaging technologies and integrated workflows, relying on technical testing and practical applications in filmmaking, with a focus on bringing more cinematic capabilities to mobile devices.
The HONOR Robot Phone has appeared at a number of international film events, including the 79th Cannes Film Festival, the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival, and the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, where it drew interest from filmmakers and cinema industry specialists due to its mobile imaging capabilities.
