Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone has spoken about the future of forward Julián Álvarez, offering a cryptic response amid ongoing speculation. Simeone’s comments come as Álvarez, an Argentine international, was left out of the squad for the match against Sevilla after facing boos from his own fans during the 2-2 draw with Villarreal last week in Madrid.

Simeone’s Ambiguous Statement

When asked about Álvarez’s situation, Simeone said: “I’m not saying this now because of Julián, but I always say that anything can happen. That’s football and everything is possible, but I’m not saying it for a specific reason.” He added: “Álvarez is going through a personal phase of his own. We will be here to help him from a sporting perspective, and also so he can help us because he is an exceptional player.”

Fan Reaction and Transfer Speculation

The exclusion of Álvarez from the Sevilla match followed a barrage of jeers from Atlético supporters during the previous game. The club has repeatedly rejected a transfer for Álvarez, who is reportedly eager to join local rivals Barcelona, while he has also been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in England.

Atlético’s Current Standing

Despite the off-field distractions, Atlético Madrid climbed to the top of the La Liga table after a convincing win over Sevilla. The team now has 7 points from 3 matches.
