Google has officially launched its ‘Live’ features across Gmail, Docs, and Keep, moving them from beta to general availability for subscribers of its paid Google AI plans. This rollout is part of Google’s broader push to integrate voice-driven interactions with its Gemini AI assistant into everyday productivity tools.
Gmail Live: Natural Language Email Search
First tested in June, Gmail Live allows users to search their inbox and ask questions using conversational language, bypassing traditional keyword-based search. For instance, you might ask, ‘When is my child’s next school event?’ and follow up with, ‘Does he need to bring anything for the field trip?’ The feature then provides answers based on the content of your emails.
The experience mimics human conversation, letting you interrupt, change topics, or pivot to new questions at any time. Gmail Live also displays a transcript of the conversation on screen, along with links to the specific emails that informed each answer, so you can easily verify the sources.
Gmail Live is now available on Android and iOS devices for subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans.
Docs Live: Voice-Powered Document Creation
In Google Docs, the Docs Live feature helps you organize thoughts and structure documents through voice commands. By granting access to Google Drive and Google Chat, the tool can pull relevant information from those services, as well as from Gmail and the web, to assist in drafting content.
Docs Live is accessible on Android and iOS for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Keep Live: Turning Speech into Organized Notes
Keep Live leverages AI to convert spoken ideas into structured lists and notes within Google Keep. Beyond executing direct commands, it understands context and intent. For example, it can automatically categorize grocery items under a heading like ‘Kabsa ingredients’ without explicit instructions, or add new items to an existing shopping list.
Currently, Keep Live is available only on Android for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, with potential broader availability in the future.
