Former Al-Ahly player Emad Al-Hosani has revealed that Jurgen Klopp, the manager of the German national team, was the one who recommended his compatriot Jenz Fissnik to lead Al-Ittihad this season.
Speaking to beIN Sports Qatar, Al-Hosani said: “I heard that Jenz Fissnik came to Al-Ittihad on a recommendation from Jurgen Klopp.”
He added: “This coach has ambition and desire, and he wants to build something with Al-Ittihad. That is clear in the matches he has led the team in the Saudi Pro League.”
Al-Hosani explained: “He is always keen to guide and move outside the pitch, and his interventions are always positive for the players, as shown by the positive results the team is achieving so far.”
He concluded: “Al-Ittihad brought in a young German coach, and he succeeded in quickly settling into the team. The fans love him, and it is clear that his instructions and his mark on the pitch are positive.”
Fissnik’s Appointment and Early Impact
Fissnik took charge of Al-Ittihad before the start of the current season, after a strong half-season with his previous club, Gamba Osaka of Japan, with whom he won the AFC Champions League 2 title at the expense of Al-Nassr.
Since arriving at Al-Inma Stadium, the German coach has led the Tigers to five wins in the Roshn League, along with two draws, without suffering any defeat. The team sits second in the standings with 17 points, one point behind Al-Hilal.
In addition, Fissnik guided the Jeddah club to qualification for the round of 16 in the King’s Cup, and through the preliminary round of the AFC Champions League Elite, before reaching the league phase.
Upcoming Match
Al-Ittihad begins the league phase of the Asian competition on Monday, as they visit Al-Shamal of Qatar at Al-Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor in the first round.
