Mohamed Salah’s move to Trabzonspor has already made waves in Turkish football, but his impact is now extending beyond the pitch. According to Turkish media reports, the municipality of Yomra, a district in Trabzon, has proposed renaming a local street in honor of the Egyptian forward.
Proposal to Rename Street
The municipality has suggested changing the name of “Selvi Sokak” in the Kaşüstü neighborhood to “Mohamed Salah Street.” The decision is expected to be formalized once approved by the municipal council, which is likely to discuss the matter this week.
Yomra’s mayor, Mustafa Bıyık, stated that having a player of Salah’s caliber residing in the area is a special occasion for its residents. He emphasized that the municipality wants to make this period a permanent part of Yomra’s history.
Significance of Salah’s Transfer
Bıyık added that Salah’s transfer is not only a major deal for Trabzonspor but also one of the most notable signings in Turkish football history. He noted that Salah’s presence would help elevate the region’s status and attract more attention to it.
During the transfer negotiations, the municipality had expressed its desire for Salah to choose Yomra as his residence. Now, steps are being taken to name the street where his home is located after him.
Salah’s Journey to Trabzonspor
Salah, 34, joined Trabzonspor in August 2026 on a free transfer after a nine-year stint with Liverpool. The Egyptian national team captain signed a two-year contract with the Turkish club.
So far, Salah has played five matches for Trabzonspor in the Turkish league and European qualifiers, scoring three goals. His third goal came during Monday’s 2-1 loss to Amedspor.
