Manchester City won the Manchester derby 1-0 against Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford, the home of the Red Devils, in a top match of the fourth round of the historic competition.
Manchester City, playing their first derby against United without Spanish coach Pep Guardiola in 10 years, suffered a numerical disadvantage after a controversial red card for star Phil Foden in the 23rd minute following a joint challenge with Manchester United player Bruno Fernandes.
The only goal of the match came from Norwegian star Erling Haaland in the 60th minute, while Manchester United players were unable to equalize in the remaining time.
With that result, Manchester City, seeking to reclaim the title they have missed in the past two seasons, raised their tally to 12 points, achieving a full mark so far after winning all their first four matches of the season in the competition, sitting second on goal difference behind Arsenal (the defending champions) who top the table with the same number of points.
On the other hand, Manchester United, who have not won the title since the 2012/2013 season, continued their disappointing start in the competition, as their tally froze at 4 points in thirteenth place.
It is worth noting that this is the first derby City have played under the leadership of Italian manager Enzo Maresca, who took over the role after Guardiola, who left his position at the end of last season.
