Barcelona president Joan Laporta has expressed strong optimism about the team’s start to the season, stating that the club has all the ingredients to compete for every trophy, with the Champions League at the top of their priorities.
Laporta attended the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the Rafael Casanova monument for Catalonia’s National Day, an event Barcelona participates in annually. While urging caution, he stressed the need to stay grounded: “We must keep our feet on the ground; the season has only just begun.”
He quickly revealed his optimism about the team’s performances, adding: “We hope to maintain this level with great commitment. To win this year, you have to run. The commitment of the team and the club is a big sign.”
Praise for Lamine Yamal
Laporta touched on Lamine Yamal’s comments about the importance of running and pressing during matches, praising the young star’s maturity despite his age. “What Lamine says at 19 deserves a lot of appreciation; his maturity is amazing. He is a clear example of the need for the team to stay focused and not relax, in order to fight for everything.”
Laporta believes the optimism within Barcelona is justified, especially with a strong and balanced squad: “We have a very competitive and balanced squad, and Deco has done a great job. Everyone must be fully focused; we have a lot of quality and can form two competitive teams, and there is no room for relaxation.”
The Quadruple Dream
Laporta clearly outlined Barcelona’s ambitions for the season, confirming that the club aims to win every possible trophy. “We are candidates to win titles. Our goals this year are to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Supercopa, and the Champions League. We must always maintain the team spirit, and thinking this way will lead us to win titles.”
Barcelona has not won four or more titles in a single year since 2015, when under Luis Enrique they clinched La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
European Priority
Despite Barcelona’s ambition in all competitions, Laporta did not hide that the Champions League holds a special place in his calculations: “We have a special enthusiasm to win the Champions League.”
Laporta’s comments come amid the team’s strong start under Hansi Flick, which has reinforced the board’s confidence in Barcelona’s ability to compete strongly domestically and continentally, with a clear desire to reclaim the European title that has eluded the club since 2015.
