Apple has announced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone. The device combines two displays with professional-grade performance, advanced camera capabilities, on-device AI features, and iOS 27, which Apple designed specifically to take advantage of the foldable form factor.
According to Apple, the iPhone Duo delivers a familiar user experience within a foldable design. When opened, it features a 7.6-inch Retina Super XDR inner display that provides ample space for content, gaming, and multitasking. When closed, the outer display measures 5.4 inches. Apple maintains a consistent aspect ratio across both screens.
Thin Design and Improved Durability
Apple focused on combining thinness and durability in the iPhone Duo. The device uses Grade 5 titanium and a high-precision hinge made of more than 100 small parts, designed to ensure smooth movement when opening and closing the phone.
The phone includes a Ceramic Shield layer on the back and Ceramic Shield 2 on the front to improve scratch resistance, along with an IP68 rating for resistance to water, dust, and splashes. The inner display uses custom layers and materials to reduce bending stress and enhance its ability to withstand daily use.
Advanced Cameras and New Photography Experiences
The iPhone Duo features a 48MP main camera that supports shooting at up to 48MP, with up to 2x optical zoom, a larger sensor, a fast lens aperture, and optical image stabilization via sensor shift.
It also includes a 48MP ultra-wide camera, the same one used in iPhone 18 Pro models, plus a front camera that lets users capture photos and videos in different modes without rotating the phone.
The camera system leverages the foldable design to offer new features, including Smart Capture, which uses on-device AI models to analyze the scene and determine the right moment to take a photo, and Duo Preview, which shows a live preview on the outer display.
The phone supports 4K video recording at up to 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision, along with additional slow-motion, cinematic, and audio mix capabilities.
iOS 27 Designed for the Foldable Screen
Apple redesigned iOS 27 to adapt to the iPhone Duo, moving several controls and navigation elements to the side of the screen to allow more room for content. When the device is open, users can run two apps side by side on the same screen for the first time on an iPhone, switch between apps quickly, open two windows of the same app, and group apps to return to later.
Apple also redesigned StandBy mode, which can run on either the inner or outer display, with new interfaces for weather, calendar, photos, and clock, plus expanded customization options.
A20 Pro Chip and Stronger Performance
The iPhone Duo is powered by the A20 Pro chip, also used in iPhone 18 Pro models, with an advanced thermal management system and a dedicated vapor chamber.
Apple says the phone delivers up to 35% higher performance compared to iPhone 17 Pro. Its six-core CPU offers up to 20% faster performance than A19 Pro, and its seven-core GPU provides up to 40% faster performance.
The chip includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine that provides twice the compute capability for running on-device AI models, along with unified memory with 50% higher bandwidth and a 2nm manufacturing process.
Battery That Lasts All Day
Apple equipped the iPhone Duo with two batteries distributed on both sides of the device that work together as a single battery. This allows up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display and up to 44 hours when using the outer display.
The phone supports fast charging to 50% in about 20 minutes, as well as wireless charging to 50% in about 30 minutes using MagSafe or Qi2 technologies.
Advanced Wireless Connectivity
Apple will offer the iPhone Duo globally with an eSIM-only design, allowing the internal space to be used to increase battery capacity. According to Apple, eSIM supports more than 500 carriers worldwide.
The phone supports the N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, plus the new C2 cellular modem, which offers AI-powered improvements in connection quality and reliability.
Price and Availability
The iPhone Duo is available in two colors, white and black, with a starting price of AED 8,500 or USD 2,000.
Pre-orders begin on Friday, October 16, and the phone will be available in stores starting Friday, October 23. It will reach 28 additional countries and regions on October 30.
Apple also introduced the iPhone Duo case for AED 319 and the iPhone Duo wallet with stand for AED 529, with orders starting October 16.
