Eberl’s Comments on Olise
In a press conference, Eberl said: “Michael Olise is a person who wants to play football, but what happens off the pitch is not one of his strengths. The matter receives a lot of attention in the media, but on other platforms he receives just as much praise for his behavior. The most important thing for us is that he shows his abilities on the pitch.”
Eberl added: “Children and teenagers can perhaps empathize with that more than we can.”
The Interview That Sparked Debate
After the big win over Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Thursday, Olise was named man of the match and appeared in an interview with DAZN. When asked about his feelings after scoring a spectacular goal, Olise gave a response described as “provocative,” saying: “I don’t know.” The reporter then asked how such moments happen, and the French player replied: “I shoot the ball, and then it goes in or it doesn’t.”
After several more short answers, the reporter ended the interview, which lasted only one minute. Several journalists later accused Olise of lacking respect and acting arrogantly.
