The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Carlos Queiroz will resume his role as head coach of the Black Stars, just two months after his initial exit. The 73-year-old Portuguese manager is set to begin his new tenure starting with the upcoming international break.
Why the GFA Reappointed Queiroz
In an official statement, the GFA expressed confidence in Queiroz’s ability to steer the team forward. The association highlighted his extensive international experience, technical expertise, and familiarity with the Black Stars as key factors in the decision.
“The GFA believes that Queiroz’s vast international experience, along with his technical competence and good knowledge of the Black Stars, places him in an ideal position to lead the team during this new phase,” the statement read. Further details regarding his contract and the team’s schedule will be announced in due course.
Previous Stint and World Cup Performance
Queiroz previously coached Ghana during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he guided the team to the round of 32 despite having only a few months to prepare. His prior roles include managing the national teams of Iran, Portugal, Colombia, and Egypt.
Upcoming AFCON Qualifiers Against Ivory Coast
Ghana is scheduled to face Ivory Coast in a two-legged tie for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The matches will take place during the international window from September 21 to October 6. These fixtures will mark Queiroz’s first test in his second spell with the team.
