Huawei has officially unveiled the Pura X View, a smartphone that breaks away from conventional design norms. Instead of relying on a folding mechanism, it features an exceptionally wide display that mimics the look of foldable phones but without the hinge or flexible screen. The device was announced during an event in China, alongside the Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, the third-generation tri-fold phone.
A Display That Stands Out
The Pura X View sports a 6.39-inch flat OLED screen with an unusual aspect ratio of 16:9.5. This gives the phone a broader, more distinctive appearance compared to most current devices. The display is surrounded by ultra-slim, symmetrical bezels measuring just 1.05mm, resulting in a near-edge-to-edge front. The screen offers a resolution of 2232 x 1320 pixels, supports high-frequency PWM dimming at 2160Hz, and has a touch sampling rate of 300Hz. Peak brightness reaches an impressive 6500 nits, and the display is protected by Kunlun Glass.
Design and Build
With a thickness of only 6.68mm and a weight of 201 grams, the Pura X View feels sleek and premium. On the back, the camera module is arranged horizontally at the top, a design choice that also helps reduce wobble when the phone rests on flat surfaces. The device is available in four colors: black, white, red, and gray.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the Pura X View is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9030S processor, paired with 12GB of RAM. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The phone runs HarmonyOS 7, ensuring seamless integration with Huawei’s ecosystem of devices and services.
Battery and Charging
One of the standout features is the massive 7000mAh battery, which supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The device also carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance, offering robust protection against the elements.
Camera System
The Pura X View boasts a versatile triple-camera setup on the rear. The primary sensor is a 200MP RYYB camera with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS). It is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with an f/2.6 aperture and OIS. For selfies and video calls, there’s a 50MP front-facing camera with an f/2.6 aperture.
Connectivity and Additional Features
On the connectivity front, the phone supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and 5G networks. It also includes dual-frequency GPS, a USB Type-C port, and a bottom-firing main speaker.
Pricing and Availability
In China, the Huawei Pura X View starts at 5,999 yuan (approximately $900) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. Prices increase with higher storage options, reaching up to around $1,266 for the top-tier model. Huawei has not yet confirmed international availability, but if the phone launches outside China, it is expected to be priced higher than the Chinese market rates.
